“During COVID-19… Sentry Point Access was located at Tregenna Place and Lifeboat Hill enforcing restricted access, with ‘flexible discretion’ to the LTE during the hours of 11AM - 4PM,”.

Questionnaire asks leading questions & only allows for quantitative not qualitative data.
Heavily visitor centric:
13 of the 27 questions directly prioritise visitors to the town. e,g. 9. What is your main reason for visiting St Ives? (No “I live here.” Option given.)
11 of the 27 questions can be answered with “I live here.”, which is not an option & makes the question meaningless for us.
Not one question is specific to Downalong residents & the impact on their lives.

No Councillor appears to live in any St Ives street affected by the restrictions on Wharf Road.
The consultation period to be extended - it is too short and we have not had sufficient notice of the plans.
To be written to about these proposals.
Future communication by email if that is our chosen option.
To have a presentation in The Island Centre:
Then be given adequate chance to respond in a questionnaire that is written specifically for Downalong residents.
Residents and council tax payers of the town must be prioritised.

Dear XXXXX,
Thanks for your recent emails, and your indication of support (or, at least, support for the demise of the Conservatives). And yes, I recollect the unnecessary need for you and your fellow club members excellent rearguard effort to defend the Sailing Club compound.
I hope you’ll forgive me for not being as well-briefed on these proposals as i should be to engage in the discussion. As i’m busy with my day-job and other distractions, and have no influence on such matters, I haven’t looked at this closely enough to take a view. However, the principles of what you promote are certainly sound; and your suggestion of an extended consultation for downalong residents seems reasonable in the circumstances.
In the meantime, I have no role nor influence in this. But i will make an effort to follow more closely.
Kind regards,
Andrew

Subject: Traffic in Downalong
Hi XXXXX,
Sorry I have been a while replying to your email.
I do share some of your concerns, re the traffic in Downalong. And more consultation should have taken place.
I must point out, I'm not a member of the committee which made the recommendations.
Regards.
Kenny.

Dear XXXXX
Thank you for the letter you sent me (and others) before Christmas. As you know, the St Ives Town Deal Board will be considering the feedback from the consultation over the next few months, and I shall be ensuring that the new scheme works for residents as well as visitors.
The important thing is that this scheme will not be rushed into – as the scheme during the pandemic undoubtedly was, for obvious reasons. It is, in my view, sensible to develop the plans over time: agreeing first of all the principle of drop bollards, for example, and then when they would drop (and I do not see why an exemption this should not be extended to plumbers, builders, medical care, or any of the other examples you mention). This is like choosing the hardware before you choose the software: and the next stage in the process will be traffic modelling and engineering surveys.
The detailed designs for the scheme will be presented for public approval in summer of this year, and you will be given every opportunity to provide feedback.
Kind regards,
Derek Thomas
